Preservation Hall
online lessons
Creative Strings Academy
is jazz violinist, Christian Howes' academy. Chris
teaches improvisation to all ages and holds online
classes primarily for string players, but any instrument
would be welcome! The emphasis is on developing your
improvisations using short loops of 2 to 4 chords and
focusing on voice leading using chord arpeggios and
scales.

San Francisco Bay Area college students
can find Jazz classes at these colleges and
universities:
University of California, Berkeley (UC
Berkeley): While primarily a ronowned research
institution, UC Berkeley features a highly active UC
Jazz Ensembles program. It is open to students
of any major and includes a 17-piece big band and
multiple small combos.
Community Coleges and Summer
Intensives:
Stanford
Jazz Workshop: Located at Stanford University,
this non-profit organization produces the annual
Stanford Jazz Festival and offers premier summer
immersion programs and jazz institutes for high
school students, college students, and adults.
The
Jazzschool (Berkeley): An extension of the Bay
Area's jazz scene, offering year-round classes,
workshops, and ensemble opportunities for
instrumentalists and vocalists of all abilities.
